Controlled Burns in California Creating Haze | News
A controlled burn in northern California is creating hazy skies in northern Nevada.
The U.S. Forest Service is burning 1,000 acres as part of a prescribed burn north of Truckee at Sagehen Summit off Highway 89.
The Forest Service says the goal with the prescribed burn is to reduce fuels and promote forest health.
Over the next ten days the Forest Service will burn 100 acres a day.
Meanwhile, in the Plumas National Forest, firefighters are performing a prescribed burn in the Butterfly Valley area in the Mount Hough Ranger District near Quincy, California.
Firefighters successfully burned 30 acres on Saturday.
Tomorrow they plan to burn an additional 60 acres.
They have burned around 90 acres so far.
The Butterfly Valley Trail in the Butterfly Valley Botanical Area is still closed due to prescribed burning operations in the area.
