Man found dead with stab wounds in Christchurch park named

A man found dead with stab wounds in a Christchurch park early on Friday morning has been named by police.

He was 27-year-old Anaru Thomas Williams.

Inspector Nicola Reeves said police were called to a carpark in the western suburb of Hei Hei around 1.50am on Friday.

Williams was found dead at Wycola Park with stab wounds.

“Our thoughts are with his whānau and loved ones at this difficult time,” said a police spokesperson.

A police presence will remain in the area while investigations continue.

A 36-year-old man has appeared in Christchurch District Court on Friday afternoon on an assault charge over the man's death.

He was granted name suppression and remanded in custody until January 19.
