One Killed, Multiple Injured After Crash at Mono Cone Burger Restaurant |
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has released new details on a fatal crash that happened on Thursday near the town of Lee Vining.
CHP says around 11:50 a.m., a 1999 Ford F-250 extra cab pickup was traveling in a northbound lane of US-395, just south of First Street.
They said for unknown reasons, the driver, 63-year-old Marvin McChristian of Mammoth Lakes, California, allowed the truck to veer to the right. The Ford traveled across a concrete curb and sidewalk, and into the parking lot of an outdoor dining area of the Mono Cone restaurant.
The truck hit four people seated at a table and several other patrons standing at the ordering/pick-up windows.
CHP says four people suffered minor injuries and declined medical help on scene. They said one person had major injuries and was taken to Mammoth Hospital.
Those injured are as follows:
68-year-old Jane Blackman of Ventura, California
72-year-old Joan Montgomery of Sonoma, California
73-year-old Marlin Montgomery of Sonoma, California
64-year-old Barbara Richter of Mammoth Lakes, California
32-year-old Li Wanlu of Xi'an, China
32-year-old He Wenhue of Xian, China
Another person was pinned underneath the Ford and also suffered major injuries. During transport to the CareFlight helipad, that person, 70-year-old Clyde Blackman of Ventura, California, passed away from their injuries.
CHP says the investigation is ongoing.
