Renter in Downtown Reno Siegel Suites Facility Says Room Lacked Hot Water, Heat |
A man has been renting a flexible stay apartment with Siegel Suites in downtown Reno, which was formerly the Cal Neva Nevadan Tower. He says he wants his complaints to be made public, saying he doesn't want others to be taken advantage of.
Jeremy Taylor lives in the Siegel Suites with his wife and three kids. The family moved in on Thanksgiving Day. Taylor says the problems started about a week later.
Taylor says, "We had no heat, barely any hot water--maybe for a couple hours from 1 A.M. to 3 A.M. So, I had to get my children up early in the morning and give them baths."
Taylor says last week, something else happened, "In room 1406 and I'm in 1407 straight across the hallway. Not sure exactly what, I just know it was a microwave fire."
He says the fire damaged neighboring rooms, including part of the floor in his room. Taylor says management did move him to a renovated room upstairs on the night of the fire. However, he claims they tried to get him to move back down to the original room, the next day. He says it was still damaged.
We reached out to Siegel Suites for comment, but have not yet heard back.
Taylor contacted code enforcement with the City of Reno. On Wednesday, Jon Humbert, Spokesperson for the City of Reno confirmed, "We've got officers going in for a second look at this property today, because of the questions that have been raised about this."
Late Wednesday afternoon, Code Enforcement officers found the facility had taken corrective action and made the necessary repairs. The city tells us that the original room is now back in working order and up to code.
Taylor says he was withholding rent for the original room, citing what he claims was a lack of proper heating and hot water. However, he plans to pay rent on Friday, since everything is in good condition in his new room.
