In loving memory of Robert Patrick “Pat” Dyckman and BetteJo Sperry “Joey” Dyckman, a remarkable couple whose love and dedication to each other left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate to know them. Together in life and now in eternal rest, they exemplified the true essence of partnership, devotion and unwavering love.
Patrick was born March 17, 1949, in Hardin, Montana to Robert F. and Helen Dyckman. Pat sailed to Maui with his brother, Harlan Dyckman in the mid 1970’s. Pat was a US Army Sergeant, master carpenter, sailor, fisherman, and soccer coach. He was a dedicated and much-loved father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Pat was a man of profound kindness, strength and integrity. He loved to build and took much pride in the home he and Joey built and lived in on Puiki Place in Mill camp.
Joey was born June 17, 1950, in Des Moines, Iowa to Harold and Helyne Sperry. She was a homemaker, seamstress, Girl Scout Leader & Director, and Kaonoulu Ranch secretary. Joey was a much-loved mother and a devoted tutu with a nurturing spirit and boundless love that radiated in everything she did.
Pat and Joey leave behind a family who adored and admired them beyond measure: their five children, Angela, Sean, Ian (Melissa), Nyas (Jennifer) and Tavner, four grandchildren who they cherished, Devin (Ilima), Myrian, Quinn and Hyde and one great-grandson, Kymani.
Pat is survived by his sister Robyn Charles (Randy) of Big Bear, California, his brother Michael Dyckman of San Bernardino, California and his loving niece Tracy (Don) McCraner of San Marcos, California and many more nieces and nephews. His beloved brother, Harlan Dyckman and sister Nicky McMurray predeceased him.
Joey is survived by her three sisters Pam (Carl) Henroid of Ballwin, Missouri, Nancy (Bruce) Sutherland of Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii and Lynda (John) Jenkins of St. Louis, Missouri and many nieces and nephews. Pat and Joey met in Lahaina and married at Launiupoko Beach Park in May of 1978.
They raised their family in Lahaina, all five of their children went to Lahainaluna High School as well as one grandchild (so far). They always considered Maui to be their forever home and Lahaina was the town they loved the most. Their home was a haven of warmth where friends and family were always welcomed with open arms and laughter radiated. Pat and Joey were together the entire day of August 8th, they would never leave each other's side.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to a charity benefiting the Lahaina fire victims. Their service will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024 1pm-4pm in Makawao, Maui.
