Who Are The Parents of Big Pokey?

By Olivia Zamora

Hip-hop artist Milton Powell, also known by his stage moniker Big Pokey nicknamed The Lackey, was born in Houston, Texas.

Pokey, one of the founding members of Screwed Up Click, is known for his chop-and-screw style of music.

Big Pokey started working with DJ Screw and other S.U.C. members in the 1990s, which marked the beginning of his musical career.

Big Pokey immediately gained recognition for his gruff, deep voice and his capacity to rap in a real, unvarnished way.

One of his most significant accomplishments during this period was his inclusion in DJ Screw’s groundbreaking mixtape “June 27th,” which was a turning point in the development of the Houston rap scene.

The linguistic prowess on display in Big Pokey’s 1999 debut solo album, “Hardest Pit in the Litter,” solidified his reputation as a talented rapper.

The album included joint efforts with other S.U.C. members, including Lil’ Keke, Big Hawk, and E.S.G.

Big Pokey was a standout performer in the Houston rap scene thanks to his unusual flow and vivid narrative.

The rapper reportedly fell to the ground on Saturday while performing in Texas, and Justice of the Peace Tom Gillam III later confirmed his death.
