Lunas’ state run ends with 59-44 loss to Raiders | News, Sports, Jobs

Lola Donez scored 24 points and Juseana Delatori added 16, but the Lahainaluna High School girls basketball team lost to No. 1-seeded Iolani 59-44 in the semifinals of the Heide & Cook/HHSAA Division I state tournament on Thursday at the McKinley gym in Honolulu.

Donez was 10 of 15 from the floor one night after she poured in 41 points and shot 16 of 22 in a 69-66 win over Waiakea in the quarterfinals.

The Lunas (13-2) saw their 13-game win streak snapped in the loss. The fourth-seeded Lunas shot 16 of 42 (39 percent) for the game, while Iolani shot 21 of 48. The Raiders made eight 3-pointers compared to four for the Lunas.

Hailey Fernandez scored 16 points for Iolani, the four-time defending state champions. Mia Frye and Justice Kekauoha each added 12.

Iolani led 20-7 at the end of the first quarter, 29-16 at halftime and 46-31 going to the final quarter.

The Raiders (11-0) advanced to the state final tonight at 7 p.m. at the Neal Blaisdell Arena, while the Lunas will play for third place at 1 p.m.
